Photos by Tatev Azizbekyan
12.08.2009

There is a Circus School in Nor Nork Community of Yerevan functioning with the support of the Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin and the Armenian General Benevolent Union(AGBU). The year is an anniversary one for the school. It is 35 years old.

The Circus School is the only one in the Caucasus. Today about 200 children, aged 4 to 18 learn circus skills here. Six skilled masters introduce the children with different circus genres – conjuring, acrobatics, equilibristic, air gymnastics, eccentrics, etc.

The Circus School pupils have participated in a lot of contests and events in different countries and have received medals. And yet in 1987 they became festival laureates of the Soviet Union.

For 5 times since 2001 the Circus School pupils have participated in “Delphian Games” and every time they have returned with gold or silver medals.

Tatev Azizbekyan, author of the photos, has graduated from Photojournalism Department of Caucasus Institute. This photo story is her final project.
